Blackstone Alternative Asset Management (BAAM®), Blackstone’s Hedge Fund Solutions platform, is the world’s largest discretionary investor in hedge funds, with approximately $74 billion in assets under management. Associate – Business and Financial Evaluation (“BFE”)

Job Description

The Business and Financial Evaluation (“BFE”) Group in BAAM is responsible for performing analyses of the business structure and operations of hedge fund managers. The group performs over 150 operational due diligence meetings per year. In addition, the team assesses underlying hedge fund managers’ service providers. The team also works on special projects with management.


    • Meet with senior level management at investee and prospective hedge funds for operational due diligence meetings spanning various investment strategies. These meetings discuss all areas of operations to assess the strength of the organization and its ability to mitigate operational risk

    • Monitor a sub-set of hedge fund managers on a continual basis.Establish and carry out due diligence plans to maintain ongoing oversight.Report findings to Senior Management

    • Document due diligence meetings conducted and present findings to both the Portfolio Management Team as well as Senior Management

    • Monitor and research industry and regulatory developments.As needed, produce materials for internal and external distribution

    • Analyze manager materials, investor communications, regulatory filings, and audited financial statements, among other materials

    • Assist team members on special projects

    • Perform due diligence on administrators and other service providers that support underlying BAAM hedge fund managers

    • Meet with prime brokers and other industry participants

    • Respond to client requests and inquiries.As needed, discuss industry and manager-specific topics directly with clients

    • Attend industry seminars to understand new developments

    • Develop and conduct training sessions on industry topics for other employees

    • Mentor analysts and other junior team members


    • Candidates should have 5-8 years of experience

    • Prior work experience should include having worked either at a public accounting firm, hedge fund administrator or prime broker

    • Experience at a Traditional or an Alternative Asset Management entity in compliance, financial and/or operational role

    • Knowledge of hedge fund structures, terms, operations, accounting, trade flow and compliance

    • Candidates should possess strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills

    • Exceptional leadership capabilities

    • Team oriented

    • Candidate should be willing to travel, both domestically and internationally.Approximately 20% of the due diligence meetings will take place outside of New York City

    • Hedge fund experience and post-graduate certifications such as an MBA, C.P.A. or C.F.A. are preferred; however, they are not required for the position
